PREGNANCY

Pregnancy test - First symptoms

The first confirmation to know that you are pregnant is the well-known pregnancy test. It is sold in pharmacies without a doctor's prescription and its use is simple. The positive (pregnant) or negative (non-pregnant) result is displayed in different ways depending on the type of test (+/-, lines, digital).

The test is used with a small amount of urine from the first morning urination. The result comes from the measurement of β-chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG), which is the pregnancy hormone.

The sensitivity of the tests is from 25 to 50 β-hCG units, which practically means that the diagnostic value of the tests is meaningful a day after the non-arrival of the expected period, which practically means “one day late”.

First symptoms

At the beginning of pregnancy, a woman may experience some symptoms that will lead her to use a pregnancy test or confirm a positive pregnancy test before the woman visits her doctor. Such symptoms are morning sickness, vomiting, dizziness, breast enlargement, which are the most common. Here we list the most important points about the first symptoms of pregnancy and possibly answer some of your questions.

  1. It is not necessary to have all the symptoms at the same time.

  2. Many women do not experience any of the above symptoms (while having a positive pregnancy test), but this does not mean that the test is false positive or that the pregnancy will not be successful.

  3. You do not need to treat the symptoms with any medication without consulting your doctor, since the range of medications that can be used during pregnancy is extremely limited.

  4. Remember that the presence of these symptoms is considered normal, but the severity with which they appear is related to each woman individually, so their treatment or not is individualized based on the needs of each pregnant woman.
